Summary: Our client is looking for a maritime professional with relevant seagoing experience, ideally supplemented by shore side dock or harbour master work, to join the East Anglia ports team as Divisional Harbour Master. With a primary accountability of safe and compliant operations, commercial awareness and proven success of seeing the bigger picture with senior presence is desired.
The successful applicant will be a modern leader, able to mentor and coach the East Anglia teams. They will also be an ‘ambassador’ for the Marine Team, working closely with the Divisional Port Manager, Engineering Resource Manager, Port Operations colleagues, and contractors. Key interactions will also be required with Commercial, HR, Compliance, Finance, and ABP employees; as well as external stakeholders such as MCA, DfT, Environment Agency and the local authority.
Primary accountabilities. You will:
Assist and support all East Anglia Marine roles in co-ordinating all Marine Operations safely, efficiently and in line with relevant legislation, statutory guidance and ABP Risk Assessment and safety policy
Act in the capacity of Harbour Master in accordance with the terms of the appropriate regulating legislation.
Assist with the management of the Port Emergency, Waste, O.P.R.C. Flood Contingency and Business Continuity Plans whilst limiting and improving environmental impact
Manage and lead the East Anglia Marine Team to drive business professionally and successfully, encouraging development and open communication. You must manage all aspects of people from absence, employee relations, concerns, engagement, communication and more.
Monitor and manage the implementation of the Marine Safety Management System in accordance with the requirements of the Port Marine Safety Code.
Advise the Divisional Port Manager, East Anglia and line management on matters of Compliance, H&S & ISPS by keeping abreast of changes in legislation & codes of practice and security requirements which may impact on ABP.
Produces outstanding results both professionally and personally by directing and overseeing all Port services in accordance with strategic objectives. Effectively plans, budgets, tracks, evaluates and drives business performance.
Advise local port management on HSES best practice, benchmarking and performance, including the preparation of relevant KPIs and formal monthly.
Any other Port responsibilities and duties as and when required
Qualifications:
Sailed as a Master or Chief Officer, ideally with ship handling and/or pilotage experience.
Experience in Health and Safety/ Compliance standards and implementation of relevant legislation updates
Full UK driving licence
