Relatable, practical leadership training that works!

stonefort spent time at the back end of 2023 testing and refining organisational capability building ideas with clients. Some recurring themes emerged when we looked at leadership training specifically. To paraphrase, people described three common experiences from training they had introduced (either internally or externally administered) that had gone less well than they had hoped:

  • The training missed the mark and was ineffective from the outset.  ‘We’ve tried leadership training.  We put some of our top leaders through it.  Nothing changed.  Everyone just did what they did before.’

  • Initial success, then nothing.  ‘People came out of the training inspired and there were early signs of change.  Then the impetus was lost.’

  • Too theoretical.  ‘Previous training has been too broad, too theoretical.  It’s good stuff but I don’t think people know how to use it within the specific context of our business.’

We’re delighted to announce we’ll be working with a number of clients in the first half of 2024 to help grow their leaders.  stonefort’s is an effective, versatile leadership offer that addresses the points above (among many others) for maritime shoreside leaders.  What do we do differently?

  1. Relatable.  We build real-world leadership & change scenarios with our clients.  These are scenarios - based within their businesses - that leaders can relate to.  Cohorts engage with the scenarios ‘live’ (the scenarios respond depending on what the cohort decides to do), learning how to build & lead teams and then sustain them through a series of change events.

  2. Practical.  We use our own broad, and deep, maritime leadership experience (both at sea and ashore) to deliver leadership training that is intensely practical.  We also leave leaders with practical tools that they can apply to both day-to-day and longer-term leadership & change challenges.

  3. Wider context.  We look at the wider context in which leaders operate.  Is top leadership creating an environment in which leaders can succeed?  Is good leadership rewarded?  Is coaching & mentoring available?  Are there opportunities for those who have undergone training to step up and put into practice what they’ve learned?

We’re excited to get started! This is a focus on leadership that works in a broad range of maritime businesses - from operational, to commercial, to tech & beyond.  If you’d like to know more, please contact Mark Hanson at mark.hanson@stonefortmarine-talent.com.
