DPA/CSO (Greece, Dubai)

Role: Designated Person Ashore (DPA) & Company Security Officer (CSO)

Location: Greece (preferred) or Dubai

Timing: January 2025 onwards

Summary:

Our client is looking for an experienced, proficient DPA to fulfil both DPA & CSO roles in accordance with the ISM code / ISPS. Accountabilities are broad-ranging and include SMS, emerging legislation & regulation as well as the provision of marine expertise across the business.

The role will suit an experienced bulk carrier captain with at least three years’ experience in a similar position. The successful applicant will be an accomplished, modern leader as comfortable working with management (strategic, future-focused) as they are with detail (regulations, implementation of audit findings).

Primary accountabilities. You will:

  • Be both DPA and CSO, ensuring the company’s fleet of six managed vessels is supported in accordance with the ISM Code / ISPS.

  • Be the Document Controller and responsible for ensuring Safety Management System controlled documents are developed, approved and maintained.

  • Support the Head of Technical Management in ensuring that the Company’s SMS remains in compliance with - and certified by - recognised authorities.

  • Perform internal ISM / ISPS audits and report findings according to Company’s SMS.

  • Stay current across relevant regulatory bodies, informing Head of Technical Management of new or emerging legislation.

  • Guide employees to abide by relevant company procedures as they relate to international regulatory requirements within the maritime industry.

  • Monitor and verify the conformance of vessel operations with all Company policies and the documented management system, identifying any potential deviations and providing guidance and support for the effective implementation of corrective actions on board the vessels.

  • Support Vessel Technical Superintendents and Vessel Operators on day-to-day matters with Cargo, Navigation, and Loss Prevention matters.

  • Act as a resource to vessel Masters and Deck Officers for marine technical matters relating to Safety, Fire Fighting, Navigation and Voyage Planning, Cargo Operations, Stability and Stress Calculations, Communications, and Emergency Response.

  • Assist with incident investigations, the close-out of non-conformities, and other audit findings.

  • Be a member of the Emergency Response Team.

Qualifications. You will:

  •  Already have a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar position (both DPA & CSO).

  • Be an experienced dry bulk ship captain.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of best-in-class SMS.

  • Have an academic degree in a related field.

  • Be proficient across the normal range of office software.

  • Have sound knowledge of maritime industry legislation and industry standards.

  • Have relevant, sufficient DPA and ISM training.
